Vespa Venice, the most famous artwork by the Venetian artist Luca Moretto, could not be missing to honor the presence of the Vespa at the "MOTOCICLETTA. L’ARCHITETTURA DELLA VELOCITÀ", organized by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia and hosted in the 19th century architectural complex of Forte Marghera (Mestre) until October 28th, in an evocative pavilion made available by the Municipality of Venice and the Forte Marghera Foundation.
Coming directly from the Piaggio Museum in Pontedera (Pisa), the Vespa Venice will be among the motorcycles on display starting Friday 9 June. The intent of the curators, Marco Riccardi and Gabriella Belli, was to bring the public closer to contemporary art highlighting one of the most peculiar and attractive symbols of 20th century design: the motorcycle.
Vespa Venice was built on a 1967 Vespa N model that the artist of Jesolo hand painted with an acrylic technique using the "relief effect", a constant of all the works of Moretto who loves to intrigue the audience, inviting them to "touch with their hands".
Moretto has created this "artwork on wheels" driven by his passion for engines and the desire to express the color of the Venetian carnival, despite the pain with which he is forced to live for 19 years, ironically a consequence of a motorcycle accident.
The Vespa Venice by Luca Moretto is a work that was exhibited in a series of international exhibitions, including the Italian Pavilion of the 54th Venice Biennale curated by Vittorio Sgarbi and the Milan International Footwear Fair where it was the only protagonist in the L.A. booth. GEAR for a MICAM edition.
Since it arrived at the Piaggio Museum in July 2012, Vespa Venice has continued to collect considerable interest, it is in fact the third time that it leaves Pontedera for an international event. In 2014 it was part of the 8th Vespa World Days in Mantova; in 2016 it went to St. Petersburg for the review of the "The Vespa and the Cinema" together with the Vespa of Ugo Nespolo and Paola Navone, and now returns to be the protagonist in Forte Marghera (Mestre-Venice).
“Honored to participate in this latest project, I smile amused… In 2012 I had the feeling that the Vespa Venice at the Piaggio Museum finally arrived home to its birthplace, today instead (even if only for a few months) it returns to Venice where it was born artistically…”
The desire of Moretto is to start the Vespa Venice 946 due to the success of the current Vespa Venice.
“A challenging project that will differ from the work exhibited here in Mestre, for which I am looking for sponsors. Version 946 will tell a journey… that of my life ... From the darkness of difficult times, towards the future in an explosion of colors”.
